SUCCESS for Macy’s workers!!
It worked!
We’ve reached a tentative agreement, subject to a member vote this Sunday. Thank you for your pledges to not cross picket lines and to boycott.
We are so grateful ❤️ to 20,000+ of our customers. You can still help by contributing to the Striking Workers’ Hardship Fund.
WE’VE HELPED WORKERS AT THESE MACY’S LOCATIONS:
Bellevue: Macy's Bellevue Square Mall
Lynnwood: Macy's Alderwood Mall
Tukwila: Macy's Southcenter Mall
United Behind
Macy’s Workers
Macy’s workers are UNITED! 96% of us voted to authorize Unfair Labor Practice strikes at some of Macy’s busiest stores in Washington. With the power of our union, UFCW 3000, we asked our customers to boycott Macy’s.
Wins for Safety
After a year-long negotiation period, we finally secured clear directions for workers who might need to call 9-1-1.
When Liisa Luick, a Macy’s Alderwood sales associate in the Men’s Department, witnessed someone shoplifting she called Macy’s managers and mall security. But they refused to help. So she called 9-1-1 when she was directed to do so.
Macy’s immediately disciplined Liisa for calling 9-1-1, putting her on unpaid leave for 2 weeks! While Macy’s eventually provided back pay, at our low wages, 2 weeks without pay is a major hardship.
We were afraid to call 9-1-1 when safety issues come up because we worried we’d get in trouble, or even lose our jobs.
That’s one of the primary reasons we voted in favor of an Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) strike to force Macy’s to address safety issues without punishing workers.
Wins for Our Families
We love our jobs and helping Macy’s customers. But it’s tough when Macy’s Corporate managers refused to pay us enough to take care of our families.
With rising cost of gas, food, and rent, many of us are struggling to support our families.
Macy’s Corporation can afford to pay us more:
Macy’s paid CEO Jeff Gennette $11 MILLION in the last fiscal year alone.
Macy’s profits were $1.43 BILLION and $1.17 BILLION in the last two years.
Macy’s is expanding and opening a lot more stores, such as a “Bloomies” in University Village.
